Siubhal (pronounced “shu-al”) is the Gaelic word for ‘journey’ and the musical term for a set of variations. The Siubhal Series has two aims:
- to improve access to Scotland’s most significant oral musical cultures
- to nurture artists in rich traditions overlooked by the mainstream
Each “siubhal”, or musical voyage, brings together 3 elements: leading scholarship, a beautiful product, and boundary-crossing live events. The process brings research to life, reaches out to new audiences, and enriches cultural life. Future voyages are being developed in partnership with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama.
